Carolinas Here We Come
The Hawks played inspired second-half basketball to defeat Bucknell last night and will now move on to play South Carolina on Sunday. The Hawks are taking no chances, leaving via bus to LaGuardia airport this morning to board an early afternoon flight into Charlotte. The team will then bus the 90 or so minutes to Columbia, SC. Now that the Hawks are back on the road, this blog will resume regular reports. However, it is only as successful as the readers make it. Please offer your greetings, comments, and questions. This 2006-07 season still has at the very least one memorable weekend left. Also, hidden in the tournament hoopla--congratulations to the Hawks on a second consecutive 25-win season.

John --
Great call as always on the game Thursday night. I am lucky that I am in SC and can root on the Hawks in person on Sunday; a three-hour drive but worth it. The only downside is I won't be able to hear the silky tones of John Easterbrook. Unless of course you can reserve me a seat next to you. Go Hawks!
Congrat's to the Hawks on the Bison victory! Would love to see an upend the South Carolina team and move on.
Question for John. Erica Beverly played 8 games this year and the NCAA cutoff is 7 games in order to be able to get a medical redshirt. I did hear however that if they made it to a certain level in the tournament that the percentage time Beverly played now compared to the total games the team has played might qualify her for a redhsirt season. Any idea how many wins they need for Beverly to earn this redhsirt? I would love to see her have 3 years remaining.
Best of luck Hawks!
Larry G better will root loud & enthusiastically as a proxy for all his buds back in CT. And don't forget to stand till they score the first basket.
The question on Erica Beverly is an excellent one. I will get an answer from the coaching staff on Saturday and post it here.
Hi again:
The Hawks' coaching staff has good news and bad news about the above inquiry regarding Erica Beverly and a possible red-shirt to this year's injury situation. First off, post-season games do not count towards qualifying, so Erica definitely played too many games to qualify for red-shirt status. However, the NCA is expected to vote next month on raising the allowable percentage of games played from 20 percent to 30 percent. If it passes, and there is a fair chance it will, all current players will be grandfathered in. So don't worry about the Hawks' games played for this situation, just wory about the vote come April.
